In this explanation, Michael shares his experience helping clients overcome debilitating phobias that had limited their life for years. What conventional medicine and psychology doesn't recognize is that NLP, EFT, and hypnotherapy are able to directly affect the amygdala—that part of your unconscious mind that acts as a protector and is enabled and runs your phobia.
When you have a particularly traumatic experience, if that fright is of sufficient magnitude or threshold, it essentially flicks a switch and activates the protection mechanism in your unconscious mind. It's kind of like it goes, "Whoa, that was really bad. I don't ever want that to happen to you again. So to ensure that never happens to you again, if you ever put yourself in a situation that reminds me of this original scare, I'm going to give you so much fight-or-flight response that it becomes physically impossible for you to put yourself in that situation or context." What it also does is play you a pre-recording of the original scare that activated it in the first place.
So essentially what I'm saying is this: your phobia isn't a mental illness. It's simply an adaptive response of part of your unconscious mind that is simply attempting to protect you from having repeat experiences of something that was once very traumatic, and it's doing that very, very effectively—I think you'll agree. The problem is that the very cure itself is worse than the problem in a lot of instances. In other words, your unconscious protector is over-protecting you and really limiting the freedoms and stopping you from doing things that you want to be able to do in your life.
